Wodenschiere Country Club Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to join Wodenschiere?
We are currently offering a first year discounted membership plan for families and for singles. The discounted rate for family membership is $200 per year. The discounted rate for singles is $100 per year. This discount is offered to first time members for the first year of membership.

How much does it cost for subsequent years (2007 INFORMATION)?
The current dues are $230 per year for families and $115 per year for singles.

Am I required to purchase stock in the Wodenschiere Country Club?
No. The club is owned by the stockholding members. It used to be required that all members own a share of stock. However, that policy is no longer in effect. You may purchase stock if you so desire, but it is not required. However, members must own stock in order to vote and to hold office.

If I do want to purchase a share of stock, how much does it cost (2007 INFORMATION)?
The current price of a share is $150. This may be paid in full upon request for membership, or may be paid in two annual installments of $75 each. Members are not allowed to vote until they have paid the "full share" price.

What exactly is a family membership? Does this include my entire family?
A family membership is for two adults (maximum) and children under the age of 18 living in the same house. Children over the age of 18 who are full time students are also included until they reach the age of 23.

Are children allowed to be at the pool without an adult member of the family?
The rule is that children 12 years of age and older are allowed to be at the pool without an adult family member being present. However, the child is expected to follow all rules. If a child does not follow club rules while at the pool, the parents will be notified and necessary steps will be taken.

What are the rules of the pool?
The rules are posted on the bulletin board. New members will receive a copy of the rules. We have established a set of rules that permit our members to have fun, while also providing for the safety of all members. There are rules that apply while swimming, and there are rules that apply while on deck or anywhere on club property. We attempt to provide a safe environment for the enjoyment of our facilities by all members.

May I bring guests to Wodenschiere?
Yes. Members may bring guests to the facility. Guest rates are $5 per guest (weekdays) and $6 per guest (week-ends and holidays). 50% discount after 5 p.m. (non-refundable). Guests must be accompanied by a member at all times. Group rates available upon request.

Are there trained lifeguards on duty at all times?
Yes. Wodenschiere is very proud of our trained staff. Our lifeguards are always Red Cross certified. There is always a manager on duty to supervise the lifeguards. We rotate our lifeguard stations constantly. If the pool is open, there are certified lifeguards on duty! No exceptions!

Does Wodenschiere have a swim team?
Yes. We have a very well organized swim team. We are members in good standing of the Berks County Swimming Association. (BCSA). We compete in BSCA dual meet competition. Our team also participates in many BCSA invitational meets throughout the summer. All members (who can swim) are eligible to join the swim team. Ages 8 & Under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15 and over.

Does Wodenschiere have swim instruction?
Yes. We offer Red Cross swim instruction each summer. Our instructors are Red Cross certified. We offer classes based on age and ability. These classes are open to non members.

Is Wodenschiere open every day during the summer months?
Wodenschiere is open every day weather permitting. Our hours are noon until 8pm daily and 11am until 8pm on holidays. However, weather is a determining factor. We are sometimes forced to open later than scheduled or close earlier than scheduled because of weather. Every effort is made to be open during regular scheduled hours.

Does Wodenschiere have a "kiddie pool" or wading pool?
Yes. We have a 780 square foot wading pool that is for children 8 and under to enjoy while accompanied by an adult.

Does Wodenschiere have picnic tables?
Yes. We have 6 acres of quiet suburban surroundings. We have picnic tables and benches on the property. There is ample shaded, wooded property where you can hold a picnic.

Does Wodenschiere have changing facilities?
Yes. We have a women's and men's bathhouse with lockers and restrooms.

Does Wodenschiere have a concession stand?
Yes. We offer hot and cold food and drinks at reasonable prices. Our concession stand makes every effort to be open whenever the pool is open.

Does Wodenschire offer any other recreational activities besides just swimming?
Yes. We hold a variety of other events throughout the summer season. There are campouts and games days on the three major summer holidays. We also have equipment for volleyball, badminton, ping-pong, baseball and bean bag toss. We have a small playground for the younger generation and a small soccer field equipped with goals.

Does Wodenschiere hold regularly scheduled meetings?
Yes. We hold board meetings and general membership meetings throughout the year. We have elected officers who are always available to handle questions or comments. We also have many committees which are active throughout the year. We are a membership oriented organization. Our members have a say in every aspect of the organization. We encourage member participation, and we try very hard to include all members in helping us to make this organization responsive to the collective needs of our members.

I have heard rumors that Wodenschiere is having financial problems that might cause the club to close. Are these rumors true?
No. Like most berks county summer swimming facilities, Wodenschiere has faced many challenges during the past few years. We recently sold about a third of our property. The revenue that came from that partial property sale enabled us to remain open. Two years ago we discovered a major leak in our pipes. We have since repaired the pipes and we can now say that our organization is solvent and ready to serve our members for the forseeable future.
Our membership numbers are less than in previous years. But many, if not most, Berks County summer swimming pools are also facing a decline in membership. We still maintain that there is a need for summer swimming facilities in Berks County. And we intend to help fill that need by working hard to increase our membership while still offering an excellent facility.

In short, Wodenschiere is not planning to close! We are planning a fantastic 2007 season and we are working hard to increase our membership for 2007.

We urge you to contact our membership secretary Patricia Reinik at 610-373-7918.
